Frequently Asked Questions
1. How close are you to a beach?
We are walking distance, one-quarter mile, from Brooks Road, and Brooks Road Beach is at the end of that street (another 2 tenths of a mile). It is a pleasant 10 minute walk down a residential streets (Wequassett St. cuts over to Brooks Rd). From Brooks Rd. beach one can walk about 50 yards across the sand to Earle Road Beach. These beaches are on Nantucket Sound - the water is warmer and usually quite calm. There are 22 salt and fresh water beaches in the Town of Harwich, three large ones with parking within one mile from Allen Harbor Breeze Inn & Gardens. The National Seashore is about a 20 minute drive from our parking lot. It features a number of beautiful beaches including Coast Guard Beach, which has been frequently listed as one of the best beaches in the world. These beaches are on the open ocean side of the cape - the water is a bit cooler with 2ft. or more waves. The Cape is, of course, surrounded by water so there are numerous and varied beach opportunities, too many to list here. Visit our Activities page to find links to a variety of beach and water fun.
2. Are you close to town and restaurants?
Harwich Port Center, with its delightful shops and fine restaurants, begins one-half mile from the Inn. There is plenty of free parking in town, but it is also possible to walk into town (there are sidewalks) and many of our guests do so. We are surrounded by a variety of places to eat including fast food, seafood take out or eat in, sandwich shops, casual taverns, and fine to elegant restaurants, many within a 2 mile radius and many more within 6 miles. For more info click on the "Activities" link above.
3. What is your deposit and cancellation policy?
We are a small facility; when we take a reservation we guarantee you that your room will be available for you when you arrive. To hold to that guarantee we have to turn away any other requests we get for the room you have reserved. For that reason, like most Cape Cod Inns, we do require a deposit when you reserve a stay. Reservations may be cancelled up to three weeks prior to the stay during the summer season and up to two weeks prior to the stay during shoulder and off-seasons and deposits will be refunded; a small service fee may apply. Once the no cancellation policy begins deposits become non-refundable. For full details see our "Policies" page. Policies are also given in detail in your confirmation email.
4. Do you accept pets?
We are a pet-free facility.Because we advertise as such, people with pet allergies count on the fact that there have been no pets in our rooms, and so we are not able to make any exceptions. There are some pet friendly facilities in the area - give us a call and we'd be glad to direct you.
5. What time is check-in and checkout?
Check-in is normally between 2pm and 5pm. Earlier checkins are sometimes possible, though that is more difficult in the summer season; please ask when you make your reservation. Checkout is at 11a.m. on the day of departure. Again, late checkout is more easily accommodated during shoulder seasons and off-season (please ask when you check in); late checkout is difficult to accommodate in the summer season because of the tight time-frame for room turnover for the next guests. However, it never hurts to ask and we will do our best to meet your needs.
6. Are there any minimum stays?
Yes, like many faclities on Cape Cod we have a two-night minimum in effect. We do make exceptions when we have specific openings,
so please call to check with us and we'll do our best to met your needs.
7. Do you welcome families with children?
We do welcome families with children. We believe that children are an important and valuable part of our society. From their earliest years they need to feel welcomed in social situations so that they can learn how to interact with others appropriately in a safe and hospitable environment. We strive to achieve that kind of atmosphere.
8. Do you allow smoking on the property?
We do not allow smoking in the rooms or on the property. People wishing to smoke must go to the parking lot to do so. Since our guests expect smoke-free rooms we must and do enforce this policy strictly. Any room smelling of smoke upon checkout will have to be professionally deodorized and the cost will be added to the room charges.
9. Do you accpet weddings?
We are too small a facility for most weddings, however we often provide accommodations for guests of weddings being held nearby. There are a number of excellent faciliteis in our area that host weddings - for more information visit our "Getting Married?" page. We are glad to work with you to provide accommodations for your wedding guests.
