Can you believe it?! Thanksgiving week is upon us already. Most of the trees are prepared for winter here on Cape Cod, having lost the last of their leaves during last week's windstorm. And despite the temperature being unusually warm the Thanksgiving Holiday is less than a week away. We are open over the Holidays this year and happy to meet your needs for a room if you are visiting relatives for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Family celebrations can be wonderful and sometimes they are even more delightful when you have your own room to retreat to after a fun-filled family day. If you are one of our neighbors and have family visiting know that we are here for you to handle "visitor overflow." Whatever your hospitiality needs for your Holidays on the Cape we'll be glad to help you - just give us a call at 508-432-0337 or 800-455-0247. Two night stays or more can be reserved online; if you are seeking a one night stay call us. When Thanksgiving is over and everyone has had their fill of turkey, the Cape can be the place to follow it up with some great black Friday shopping. Unique shops filled with all kinds of wonderful gift ideas and far fewer crowds than the malls. At day's end a nice meal at one of our great local restaurants makes for a good fllow up to yesterday's turkey. It's all here for you at Allen Harbor Breeze - a great room ove rthe holday at a reasonable price. Happy Thanksgiving! |
October 2009
ARE YOU A LEAF PEEPER LOOKING FOR LEAVES TO PEEP? Look no further! In Northern New England the foliage usually peaks by Columbas Day but here on Cape Cod the leaves are just beginning to turn. The scenery on the Rail Trail (our 30 mile hiking and biking trail) is magnificent. Cranberry bogs, ripe and red and ready for harvest abound, and compliment the yellows, reds and oranges of the different trees along the trail. Nearer to the ocean at Coast Gaurd Beach the splendor of the marshes in their golden brown contrast the blue of the ocean as you gaze out at the Autumn sea. Allen Harbor Breeze Inn & Gardens is the perfect location from which to tour the best Autumn scenes on Cape Cod and our Autumn rates mean savings for you. Spend your days enjoying the beautiful foliage, the Fall Fairs and the great shopping bargains. Come back to the Inn to rest a bit, then top off the day with a great meal at one of our many local restaurats. The Cape is a wonderful place to get some time away before the busy Holiday season arrives - plan your New England Autumn getaway now! |
Sept. 2009
READY OR NOT AUTUMN IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER WITH ALL OF ITS BEAUTY! HERE ON CAPE COD September and October are often referred to as being among the Cape's best kept secrets. The Cape is such a wonderful summer spot but for some folks Autumn is even better. It is much less crowded and virtually everything is still open. Days are usually warm (mid to low 70's in September and mid to low 60's in October) with nights that are nice and cool for sleeping. Great weather for beaches, for biking or hiking the rail trail, for golf or water activites. Ferries and the whale watching boats remain open through October.
This year the Harwich Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Fall for Harwich - a fun series of events and activities during September and October. Allen Harbor Breeze Inn and Gardens is joining in the fun by offering an Autumn Art Series. We hope you'll join us for a "Cape Escape" over the next few weeks! |

THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER HAVE ARRIVED BUT IT'S STILL COOLER HERE ON THE CAPE and we have a room just for you! Cool off in our beautiful pool, or take a short (1/3 mile) walk down pleasant Wequassett Street and you'll be at the beach on Nantucket Sound. The ocean water temp is pleasantly cool at about 70 degrees. All the rains earlier this season, as unpleasant as they became, nevertheless have left us with beautiful gardens this year. Each couple of weeks brings a new set of blooms with vibrant reds, purples, and yellows now gracing our courtyard. The gardens continue their unfolding through the middle of September, so there's always lots to see. For a bit about the history behind our gardens visit the most recent edition of our newsletter, NOTES FROM THE SEA. If we haven't seen you yet this season we hope to - enjoy the rest of the summer! |

SPRING IS WELL UNDER WAY here on Cape Cod. As we do every year we are working through our many garden settings to clear up the winter wear and prepare them for their full beauty. Each garden is unique. Some, when they come into bloom, are brilliant in color. Others are quieter with more subtle tones of green and gentler colors. If you enjoy natural beauty you'll love Allen Harbor Breeze Inn & Gardens. In addition to our own elegant garden settings, its just a short walk through a quiet residential neighborhood to gorgeous Nantucket Sound beaches. When you return to the Inn after a day at the beach you can relax by the pool for a bit, then enjoy a pre-dinner drink outside the sitting area near your room, or on your own private deck. Then treat yourself to a great dinner at any of the many restaurants right here in Harwich - soomething for every taste and budget! Finish the day with some quiet shopping or with a night on the town. There are many theaters - one right here in Harwich, and others in many of the surrounding towns. March 2009
"Staycation!" It was a term coined last summer when the price of gasoline was over $4.00 per gallon. It referred to the idea that with travel far away being so expensive, coming to the Cape was a great way to "stay" close to home and vacation all at the same time! This summer, with money so tight for all of us, the "staycation" option remains a great one. The Cape is close by to all of the New England States and to New York and New Jersey. For a tankful of gas or less you can vacation with that far away feeling while staing close to home. The Cape is a wonderful world apart from the hectic busy pace of work and the city. Our beautiful beaches are easy to access (especially from Allen Harbor Breeze Inn & Gardens). The beaches of Nantucket Sound are just a pleasant one-third of a mile walk and very child friendly. Or, if you are looking for beaches with more wave action the National Seashore is only a 30 minute ride and boasts some of the world's best beaches. Come back after your fun at the seashore and relax here at the Inn by the pool, or rest up in your air conditioned room for more fun later. There are so many activities to enjoy: whale watching, biking, hiking, golfing, fishing, boating, shopping...the list goes on and on. For some great ideas of things to do visit our activities page. All that fun awaits you in just a few short months - summer is getting closer! But there's one step you can take right now, even while winter takes one last swing at us - give us a call and reserve your room at Allen Harbor Breezein Inn and Gardens now and get the room and dates that you want for your "Staycation!" |
February 2009

December 2008
We are delighted to be busy this winter season enjoying our new grandchild, Ian Steven, born just three weeks ago! Not that we're proud grandparents or anything, but as you can see in the picture, we think he's a real keeper!
We wanted to take a minute to show him off to all of our friends from Harbor Breeze, and to let you know that we will be open through the holidays as usual. We look forward to having some of you with us this season, especially friends and relatives of some of our neighbors visiting at Christmas and/or New Years. If you don't live too far away and are looking for fun this New Year's Eve, stay with us and check out nearby Chatham's "First Night," where you can ring in the New Year with a variety of different events and entertainments!
However you spend this holiday season we hope it will be one filled with peace and joy, and that the New Year is a healthy and prosperous one for you. We look forward to seeing you next Summer, and for those on our early call list, we'll be in touch in February!

Summer 2008
It has been a busy spring! Last Winter the town took down the tree the used to grace our front lawn, and we have spent most of Spring developing a new front garden to welcome our guests. Pictures of it are featured in this issue of Notes from the Sea, but we really hope you'll join us in person to see the new garden! We believe it makes a great introduction and addition to our regular gardens.
This summer is shaping up to be a great one on Cape Cod. For the majority of our guests we are less than a tankful of gas away, making for inexpensive travel to a great desitnation. We have held to last years' rates, hoping to provide great value for your vacation dollar, knowing that a restful time away from the daily stress is more important now than ever! And as always, we welcome families!
We have a new Mexican restaurant here in town, a restaurant with a new name, and your old favorites. Dairy Queen is back in business, and the usual ice cream favorites like Sundae School are still here!
We have made upgrades to some of our rooms, including new fixtures in bathrooms and larger televisions in our Garden Side Rooms. We are ready and excited to welcome back old friends ad to meet some new ones as the summer unfolds!. |
Spring 2008
Welcome to Spring 2008! This year it feels like Spring came earlier than ever with the change to Daylight Saving Time at the beginning of March and Easter coming early. Even some crocuses in Harwichport Center were poking their heads up, and a brave if foolish daffodil has broken through the earth in one of our back gardens.
Spring brings new life from winter's frozen ground, and there are some new happenings here at the Inn & Gardens. Two years ago we began a two-phase process of modifying our name. First we wanted to better reflect what we present to the public, so we added " and Gardens" to the Harbor Breeze Inn name. Now that we've been present for a couple of years as Harbor Breeze Inn & Gardens we have added "Allen" to complete our name and to better convey our location at beautiful Allen Harbor. Allen Harbor Breeze Inn & Gardens is our new name and you can learn more about it in this issue of Notes from the Sea. We want you to know that our contact information (phone numbers, emails, website address) and the service in which we take pride remain the same.
Coinciding with our new name was another change involving a sad goodbye to an old tree-friend on the property. The beautiful old poplar tree that graced the front of the property near our sign had taken some pretty significant hits over the past few years as large trucks tore off some of its large lower limbs. After the last wound the tree never fully recovered and the town, which owns trees near the road-line, decided to take it down. While we were sad to see such a beautiful tree come down we know that it was becoming a danger simply by its size, and visibility is now much better for traffic exiting Nehoidan Street. There are pictures of the tree below.
We are looking forward to having old friends back this coming summer season, and to welcoming new ones! We are already beginning to book up for July and August, so give us a call to reserve as soon as you are ready. If you're planning your summer vacation close to home we're right nearby and there's a room waiting for you!
