Summer Fun....

Behind the New Name....

Mom's Molasses Cookies Recipe...

It has been a busy spring! Last Winter the town took down the tree the used to grace our front lawn, and we have spent most of Spring developing a new front garden to welcome our guests. Pictures of it are featured in this issue of Notes from the Sea, but we really hope you'll join us in person to see the new garden! We believe it makes a great introduction and addition to our regular gardens.

This summer is shaping up to be a great one on Cape Cod. For the majority of our guests we are less than a tankful of gas away, making for inexpensive travel to a great desitnation. We have held to last years' rates, hoping to provide great value for your vacation dollar, knowing that a restful time away from the daily stress is more important now than ever! And as always, we welcome families!

We have a new Mexican restaurant here in town, a restaurant with a new name, and your old favorites. Dairy Queen is back in business, and the usual ice cream favorites like Sundae School are still here!

We have made upgrades to some of our rooms, including new fixtures in bathrooms and larger televisions in our Garden Side Rooms. We are ready and excited to welcome back old friends ad to meet some new ones as the summer unfolds!.

Innkeepers

Our New Front Garden

As we reported in our last issue, the Poplar Tree that graced the front of our property was taken down by the town over the winter months. After consultation with our neighbor and friend, Don Milbier of Patrissi Landscaping, we followed his design for a replacement garden providing a new look for the front of our property. At far left is a worker starting the removal; to the right is the new garden with its white picket fence and the sign with our new name.

From our Last Issue:

Behind the Name Change:
ALLEN HARBOR BREEZE
INN & GARDENS

Changing a name in business is not something done often, and should only be done with great thought and caution. When we purchased the property in 2002 it had been serving the public under the "Harbor Breeze" name for over 50 years. In the 1950's it was know as "Harbor Breeze Village," and many of the cottages that surround the property to this day were all a part of the facility. In the 1960's the surrounding cottages were sold off, a large L-shaped structure was added to the main building, (currently rooms 4-9) and Harbor Breeze served the public as a small motel. In the late 1970's through the mid-1980's the facility became known as Harbor Breeze Inn, which was its name when we purchased it in 2002. We gave all the rooms a facelift (and continue to do so year to year). We also developed the many gardens that are now a part of the property, and in 2006 that gave us the idea for modifying the name.

New Allen Harbor Breeze Inn Sign

We wanted our name to express both the unique garden settings that we offer to guests, but also we wanted to capture the uniqueness of our location near beautiful Allen Harbor. At the same time, we have great respect for the almost 60 year-old name of "Harbor Breeze." So over the course of two years we added the appropriate phrases to the "Harbor Breeze" identity to become Allen Harbor Breeze Inn & Gardens.

There are a number of advantages to our new name, but most importantly we hope that it will help to bring Allen Harbor more clearly to the public's eye as destination with a lot to offer. Allen Harbor Marina has been serving the public's boating needs since 1927, and offers a wonderful Nautical Gift Shop. Allen Harbor Yacht Club provides a beautiful setting for weddings or other large gatherings. Sports fishing opportunities abound, and there are numerous nearby activities from boating, fishing, golf, canoe and kayak rentals,to beaches, shopping and restaurants. Allen Harbor is a great place to be and we want folks to know that Allen Harbor Breeze Inn & Gardens is a wonderful place to stay when you're visiting Allen Harbor or any part of Harwich and the Cape!
